16.04.2012: This Summer
Sometimes it is difficult to look back even 12 months ago and believe we are in the position we find ourselves (that being the opportunities we have in front of us this summer and beyond). After spending last July in Newfoundland with Rajaton, Bob Chilcott, and a lot of really talented vocal groups we left having learned something very important: being successful at something requires a lot of hard work. If you allow me to use sports for a second, you might find me more succinct. Michael Jordan, they say, was the first to arrive and the last to leave every practice. That is, the best are the best because they work the hardest. And we certainly saw that on display at Festival 500.
So after listening to the advice of our clinicians and friends we’ve spent the last year working as hard as we could and we’ve had some pretty amazing opportunities present themselves to us as a result. Which are:
Finland – Recording a CD
We’ll be traveling to Helsinki for the month of July to record with Ilkka Herkman, an extremely talented producer/engineer who also happens to serve as Rajaton’s recording engineer. We’ve booked two houses to stay at, and assuming we survive that, we will record 8 songs that will be featured on our second album. We’ll be flying Ilkka to Canada hopefully in early 2013 to finish the other songs. We can’t wait to see what we’re able to come up with when we immerse ourselves in a recording environment for a whole month. We think it should be good, or at least, we hope so!
Sweden – Not recording a CD
After Helsinki, we are popping over to Sweden to see our very dear friends, Vocado. They are tremendous people and you should all be so lucky to have friends like them, proven by the fact that we essentially invited ourselves to stay over at their homes. While we are there, they’ve managed to set up two joint concerts in different parts of Sweden, and this will truly be a great 'career' highlight. We can’t thank them enough for their support. Kräm.
Following Sweden we’ll head over to Iceland for a couple of nights to do anything but sing - we hear the blue lagoon is quite something. Then we will finally head home sometime in August and back to reality.
While nothing in life is certain, we know this to be true. We have great friends, great colleagues, and great supporters who make each step of this journey (and some steps feel longer than others) worth it.
